Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, says the African Democratic Congress, ADC, does not offer a better alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday, where he accused the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of attacking him and the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, instead of selling its own candidate to Nigerians.
He said the ADC campaign team had been spreading false claims that the NDC presidential ticket was working for the APC or planning to step down for the ADC candidate.
“Rather than focusing on presenting the competence, credibility, and capacity of their own candidate, as we have consistently done, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council appears intent on creating mischief against our party and ticket,” he said.
Kwankwaso challenged the ADC council to respond to allegations made against its presidential candidate by Vice President Kashim Shettima, instead of targeting him and Obi.
He also raised concerns that the ADC might try to deceive NDC supporters on the eve of the election by claiming that the party’s presidential candidate had withdrawn.
“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria,” he declared.
He dismissed suggestions that the NDC joint ticket was secretly working for the APC.
“The OK ticket is neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates. We see no possibility or reason to withdraw from the presidential race in favour of the ADC candidate or any other,” he added.
While criticizing the APC-led administration for failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, Kwankwaso maintained that the ADC would not fare any better.
“The APC-led government has failed Nigerians. The ADC offers no better alternative,” he said.
According to him, the NDC’s OK ticket remains a credible alternative, with the experience and track record needed to tackle insecurity, education, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and economic challenges.
He described the NDC as the most formidable and viable opposition party and expressed confidence that it would win the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso urged supporters of the party and Nigerians yearning for change to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s campaign.
