At least 21 Kano athletes and officials who represented Kano State in the just-concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State have died in a road accident.
Witnesses confirmed the death toll to DAILY NIGERIAN, saying more than 10 people sustained serious injuries.
An official in the trip, Ado Salisu, told our correspondent that the incident occured on Daka Tsalle bridge, Garun Malam Local Government area at about 8am on Saturday when the bus hit a pothole and somersaulted.
Mr Salisu said 19 of the athletes, including officials, died on the spot, while two more passed away at Kura General Hospital.
According to Mr Salisu, notable among the dead include spokesman for the Kano State Sports Council, Galadima Ibrahim.
