Kano APC Crisis: Again Court Rules Against Ganduje

Posted by: Quickresponse | January 13, 2022

An FCT High Court has strike out an application by the Ganduje led faction of APC in Kano for a stay of execution.

KANO FOCUS reports that Justice Hamza Muazu refused the application of their lawyer on Thursday.

This followed an order of the court nullifying the ward and local Congresses of All Progressives Congress in the state.

It could be recalled that an FCT High Court presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu has affirmed that the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano have conducted ward and local government congresses in the state.

On November 30, the judge granted all the reliefs sought by Shekarau’s faction, seeking a declaration that Ganduje-led group did not conduct ward congresses.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the court, the Ganduje-led faction filed a motion seeking the court to stop proceeding, set aside its decision on the ward congress.

Delivering the ruling on Friday, the judge dismissed their motion and fined them N1million for filing frivolous and time-wasting motion.

The court further held that the local government congress conducted by the Shekarau faction remains valid and that they have the authority to elect the state exco.

The applicants in the suit are Muntaka Bala Sulyman with 17, 980 members of the party, while the defendants are APC as first defendant, Mai- Mala Buni, Caretaker Chairman; Sen. John Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary and; Independent National Electoral Commission, as the fourth defendant.
The applicants were represented by Nuraini Jimoh, SAN, while the defendants were represented by Sule Usman, SAN, M.N. Duru and Mashood Alabelewe.

Recall that parallel congresses were held in Kano, with Abdullahi Abbas emerging chairman of the Ganduje-led group and Ahmadu Haruna Zago emerging chairman of the Shekarau-led group
