The senators representing Benue State on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023 joined Governor Samuel Ortom to commission multiple projects executed by his administration.
The projects commissioned included the headquarters complex of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development as well as Unconvicted Prisoners Cells at the Makurdi Correctional Centre.
Also commissioned were the rehabilitated ward and theater blocks, Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI machine, two infectious disease dialysis machines at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
Other projects inaugurated by the Governor and the four PDP leaders were erosion control projects, roads and streets in North Bank which included Dennis Hirnyam Road, Ityu Abegh Road, David Gever street all in Northbank connecting Okiky Hotel and adjoining communities.
Also commissioned is the 2.5 kilometers road from the Modern Market gate to Agbouhul settlement, named after an elder sratesman, Iyô i Ihyarev road, John Kwaghgba Street opposite Balcony junction as well as John Ujoh Street, Jem Toraanyin Street, Anongul Agbecha Street all in Judges Quarters area of the state capital.
Others were the extension of electricity from High Court North-Bank to Ornyiev Layout, Makurdi, electricity extension to Mbagoho community, Nyorgyungu, Makurdi.
Governor Ortom in his remarks at the commissioning, said the projects were a demonstration of his administration's commitment to the execution of projects that would have direct impact on the people.
He lauded the contractors for timely completion of the projects and for meeting specifications, calling on people of the state to vote for the PDP Governorship candidate, Engr Titus Uba who he noted is capable of sustaining the implementation of policies and programmes for continuity of good governance.
Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, Dr Gabriel Suswam who commissioned the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development office Complex, as well as the Road linking Agbouhul community lauded Governor Ortom for executing the projects, stating that they will have direct bearing on the people.
Senator Suswam said the complex would give impetus to the performance of the ministry, noting also that as a former Governor, he was aware that road construction is capital intensive in governance and praised the Ortom-led administration for its performance in that regard.
On his part, Senator for Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Abba Moro who inaugurated the three roads in North Bank as well as the Unconvicted Prisoners Cells at the Makurdi Correctional Centre described the roads as critical to the transformation of the communities.
While commissioning Cells at the Correctional Centre, Senator Moro stated that with the project, Governor Ortom was writing his name in the history books towards decongesting the Correctional centre.
Also speaking while commissioning the executed streets at Judges Quarters, Senator for Benue North-West Senatorial District, Barr Orker Jev hailed Governor Ortom on his strides in township roads and streets which he noted would go a long way in urban transformation and boost socio-economic activities.
At the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, an elder statesman and one time Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Prof Shima Igyôr, commissioned the remodeled ward and theatre block as well as the multi-million naira medical equipment at the Radiology Department and the Isolation Centre.
Presenting the various road projects for inauguration, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Jude Uungwa said they were constructed to asphalt finishing and standard specifications.
On his part, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Joseph Ngbea reeled out the achievements of the Ortom-led administration in the health sector, pointing out the upgrading of General Hospitals across the three Senatorial Districts as well procurement of medical equipment, saying the Governor has prioritized quality healthcare delivery for people of the state.
Commissioner for Rural Development, Engr Victor Ukaha thanked the Governor for the attention given to rural development, stating that 43 rural electrification projects were completed and over 61 projects were ongoing at various stages of completion.
Community leaders including Stephen Umela, Donald Mgbagh, Zaki Iorshagher Nyam, among others, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the projects in their area which they said would greatly benefit them.
