......DEP GOV LAWRENCE EWHRUDJAKPO TO GRACE EVENT

The stage is set for the grand finale of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season football tournament in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital with Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State as Special Guest of Honour.

After a week of entertaining football involving arguably seven of the biggest teams in the country and little known Yenagoa based side, four teams are left to battle for the third and second place honours and top prize.

The Samson Siasia Sports Complex will once again come alive with exciting moments on Sunday, 18th August, as Akwa United confronts Kwara United in the third place match at 2pm, while Bayelsa United tackle Insurance of Benin in the grand finale at 4pm for the ultimate prize.

A statement by the Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee of the Governor Douye Diri Pre-season football tournament, Mr Ono Akpe, said the state had been agog with exciting football, as a result of the tourney which was organized to knock the teams to shape, ahead of the forthcoming Nigerian Professional Football League season, billed to take off in a few weeks time.

Mr Akpe lauded the teams for their professional conduct so far, as well as the synergy and unity of purpose exhibited by the clubs.

According Mr. Akpe, the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo will be the Special Guest of Honour, Barrister Porbeni Ogun Chairman Bayelsa Football Association will be the Guest of Honour, Hon. Daniel Igali, Commissioner for Sports Development, will be the Chief Host, while Dr Peter Singabele, former Medical Committee member of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, will be the Chairman of the occasion.

Other guests expected at Sunday's tournament ending battles are Hon Tare Porri, Chairman House Committee on Sports, Hon. Wisdom Fafi, Member Representing Kolokuma Opokuma Constituency 2, alongside other members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Also expected are government appointees, sports stakeholders, Sports Writers, and Bayelsans from all works of life.

The week long event was a brainchild of the Prosperity Administration in Bayelsa State, under the able leadership of Senator Douye Diri.
