She noted that a unified date would foster a stronger sense of belonging, collaboration, and identity for Diaspora communities globally.

Al-Ansi also stated that this will help to align across multiple cities and countries across the world so the Diaspora regardless of cultural backgrounds know that they can come to these cities, and the cities are ready to welcome them and be part of this global community.

Dabiri-Erewa expressed NiDCOM’s readiness to collaborate in championing the initiative.

She said, We are ready to work with you, to partner with you, and to champion this with you, to have July 25 recognized as Global Diaspora Day. I believe this will be a win-win for diaspora communities all over the world.

"We also have the Badagry Door of Return Festival, where we celebrate every October. It is an emotional and historic experience as diaspora visitors walk through the actual slave trade route. You should experience it.

"We will be glad to work with you in making this initiative a reality. Thank you for championing this cause.”
