The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the attack on the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State and his entourage.
In a statement signed by its State Party Chairman, Hon. Bello Sani Yabo, the NDC described the incident as heinous, barbaric and cowardly, saying it poses a direct threat to Nigeria's democracy.
Yabo stated that the party condemns the attack in totality, stressing that no individual or group has a monopoly of violence in a decent society.
"An attack on one is an attack on all. Politics should be about ideas and service to the people, not violence and intimidation," Hon. Yabo said.
He called on security agencies in Sokoto State to urgently investigate the incident and ensure that all those involved are apprehended and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
The NDC chairman further urged security agencies to live up to their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.
