In keeping with the election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the 2027 General Elections have officially commenced.
Consequently, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its candidates nationwide, particularly those contesting for the Presidential and National Assembly positions, to immediately commence local consultations, sensitisation and engagements with their constituents, as well as roll out their respective campaign activities.
This development comes as the party prepares to inaugurate its various campaign committees ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, Esq., the NDC directed all its candidates for the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly elections to liaise with party stakeholders in their respective localities, as well as the National Secretariat, in organising programmes and activities that will not only present the candidates to the electorate but also promote the ideals and message of the NDC as a party of the people and the grassroots.
«“To all candidates, we are directing that they begin their familiarisation, sensitisation and consultations. Similarly, local campaign events can now continue.
“The party will soon release the composition of its campaign organs, which will be announced and inaugurated on a date to be communicated.
“We direct all candidates across the country to begin their campaigns. State chapters, local government chapters and down to the wards should organise and draw up itineraries for their own local campaigns.”»
CAMPAIGNS MUST BE ISSUE-BASED
In keeping with the ideology and principles of the NDC, the party reiterated that all campaign activities must be issue-based, peaceful and devoid of violence, hate speech and foul language.
The party emphasised:
«“The NDC has no room for violence.”»
ON THE NDC PARTY LOGO
The NDC also wishes to clarify the issue concerning the appropriate logo to be used by the party and its candidates during the ongoing campaign activities.
According to the party, the NDC, in consultation with INEC, has modified its logo and duly notified the electoral commission. The party stated that INEC officials were present at a meeting where the modification was discussed.
However, due to some outstanding administrative processes, the replacement of the existing logo with the modified version is still being finalised.
Until the process is concluded, the party has directed all its candidates, members and supporters to continue using the existing NDC logo, which incorporates the two-finger victory sign, for campaign purposes.
The party urged all members and candidates to adhere strictly to this directive pending the conclusion of all engagements and arrangements with INEC concerning the replacement of the logo.
Signed:
Osa Director, Esq. National Publicity Secretary Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)
