The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has fired back at the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, as political tensions continue to build ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike’s response followed Uzodimma’s recent declaration that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, would not support any alliance capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Uzodimma, who read the communique after a meeting of APC governors in Abuja late Monday, said the forum had resolved not to participate in, endorse, or support any political arrangement that could weaken the ruling party or work against its candidates in 2027.
Reacting to the development, Wike took a swipe at the Imo governor, saying:
“Politics is no longer about coming from fourth place to become governor.”
The comment, which has since gone viral, is widely interpreted as a reference to how Uzodimma emerged as governor of Imo State in 2020 after the Supreme Court declared him winner, despite finishing fourth in the 2019 governorship election results announced by INEC.
The remark has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some users hailing Wike for his blunt style, while others accused him of heating up the polity ahead of 2027.
Political observers say the exchange reflects deepening cracks and strategic positioning within the ruling bloc as alignments and re-alignments begin to take shape before the next general elections.
