Governor Similanayi Fubara-led Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled a N134 billion contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The contract, awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the period of emergency rule under Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), was among the projects reviewed at the council’s meeting on Thursday.
The Council also directed the company to refund the N20 billion mobilisation fee it had received for the project.
In addition, the Council approved a six-member committee led by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to evaluate and make recommendations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to support external examinations.
The Council further instructed the flood committee, also chaired by the Deputy Governor, to take immediate steps to address flooding in parts of the state. Residents were urged to avoid blocking drainage channels to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.
