Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and PDP National Leader, Nyesom Wike, has assured disaffected members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that they will not forfeit their rightful entitlements if they return to the fold.
Wike noted that many members left the party not out of malice but due to uncertainty and the search for immediate political protection. He called on the PDP leadership to act swiftly on reconciliation.
“Chairman and your team should put in place a strong committee to reach out to those who are aggrieved. There is room for them to come back, and whatever is due to them will still be given,” Wike stated at the 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The former Rivers State Governor warned that prolonged internal crisis could hurt the party’s prospects in future elections. He stressed the need for unity and resolution.
“In life, there must be a period of crisis. What matters is how we resolve the crisis. Now that we are together, we must not stop at reconciliation,” he said.
Wike reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the PDP, declaring he has no plans to leave the party he joined in 1998.
“I have been a member of this party since 1998 and I will not leave. Whatever happens, we will continue to live as members of the PDP,” he asserted.
He also advocated for greater transparency and openness in party operations, saying it would restore confidence and encourage defectors to return.
“If you engage them, they will understand and support the party. There is need for openness so that we can achieve the unity we desire,” Wike added.
Fresh Start for PDP
Earlier, PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, signaled a new chapter for the opposition party, declaring that the era of uncertainty was over.
“The era of uncertainty is behind us. The era of strategy, consultation, and electoral preparation has begun,” he said, pledging that all congresses would be conducted strictly in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines for transparency and credibility.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, echoed the call for unity, urging members to bury their differences and avoid exclusion.
He emphasised strict adherence to the party’s constitution and commended initiatives like the e-registration programme aimed at strengthening the PDP and repositioning it for future challenges.
